PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):
A masterly display of power-hitting from teenager Kieron Pollard spurred Trinidad and Tobago to a comfortable five-wicket victory over defending champions Guyana in their KFC Cup second round match yesterday.
The big-hitting Pollard struck a whirlwind 87 in just 64 minutes from 58 balls with seven massive sixes and six fours, as he hurried his team to victory with 15 overs to spare in a lopsided contest at Queen's Park Oval.
Chasing Guyana's modest victory target of 184, T&T reached 185 for five, with Pollard being dismissed with his team three runs away from victory.
Playing in his first regional match in two years because of various injuries, Ravi Rampaul grabbed four for 53 and was well supported by left-arm spinner Dave Mohammed who bagged two for 24 in a tidy spell of bowling.
T&TŐs next match will be on Saturday, when they take on the Leeward Islands in Round Three of the Carib Beer regional series at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain.
