If you can recall what it was like in school on sports day, then you have the perfect picture of what took place at the Digicel media party, last Saturday, at Caymanas Polo Club.

It was called the Media Invitational for a reason as members of the fourth estate and the business sector were invited to match each other on the the great equaliser - the sports arena. Guests participated in a myriad of competitions, testing their mental skill, finesse and sheer physical power.

For the various competitions, every guest was placed into a 'house', with the colours being purple, red, orange and green. Each team was given the name of a stalwart of Jamaican sports. Green for Becca (Tony), red for Delapenha (Lindy), orange for Holding (Michael) and purple for Foster (Maurice). Every race and competition was supported by pom-pom shaking cheerleaders, decked out in their team colours.

Among the activities were basketball, weight lifting, as well as childhood favourites, such as egg-and-spoon and sack races. These events definitely took guests to days gone by as the last time they participated in anything like this was in their days of primary education. For the not so, ahem, athletically inclined among the gathering, there were always dominoes and ludo under the shade of the clubhouse. The only event where patrons represented their media house was the Tug-O-War, handsomely won by The Sunday Herald.

There was a variety of music including a live performance from Alaine, later in the day, plenty to eat, and lots of Gatorade and Ciclon energy drinks to go around.

Guests included Durant Pate, Kerlyn Brown, Tazhna Williams, Rohan Daley, Andrea Whyte, Mark Walters, Ed Khouri, Nehemiah Perry, H.G. Helps, Oral Tracey, Mark Thompson, Michael Anthony Cuffe Jr., Andrew Bellamy, Michael Gonzalez, Carol Francis, Dahlia Harris and Tracy-Ann Lewis.
