'2 Hot' on fire
published: Saturday | January 20, 2007

Joshua Tomlin and Margaret Wilson in a scene from '2 Hot To Hangle'.

The roots play, 2 Hot To Hangle, is set in Chrissy's living room, where her friend Plummy moved in without her consent, Cashly Dallas, the neighbour and owner is not amused because he doesn't like Plummy, who is too hot for him to handle.

She is aggressive and demanding, so he gets his police friend, Sparkplug, to get her out, but not even the police can handle her - he had to get reinforcements, which lead to confrontation between them.

Chrissy's heart-throb, Niko Styles, was not welcome by Cashly or Sparkplug, who both had an interest in her, and so was put to the sword by both. But the mother-of-all clashes came when Chrissy found out that her best friend, Plummy, and Niko had a past relationship.

In the tradition of Jamaican roots plays, 2 Hot To Hangle is punctuated by bombast, larger-than-life characters and hell-and-powder-house clashes.

The play is starred by Joshua Tomlin (of Brother Desmond fame), Luke Ellington (the original 'Maama Man'), Margaret Wilson (Dassa), Wayne Clue (Rags) and Georgette Wright (Mesha) who have all been headliners of the roots genre.
