Hopeton Henry, president of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA), says the union will resist any attempt by the Government to deduct money from the salaries of teachers at the Bois Content All-Age School in St. Catherine.
This, as teachers stayed off the job for three days last week, in protest against the poor conditions of the roadway leading to the school.
Plans to deduct money
The educators were informed on Tuesday that there were plans to deduct money from teachers who stayed off the job
"The JTA supports the stance taken by teachers and any attempt at victimisation will be resisted by the JTA," Mr. Henry told The Gleaner yesterday, following a meeting with teachers at the school.
Mr. Henry said the Education Ministry sent a letter to the school, indicating that it was querying which agency was responsible for the road.
Winfield Wright, told The Gleaner last week that he has been the principal of the institution for the past 18 years, and he had never seen any repairs done to the road during that time. He said he, along with the male students and community members, used cement to effect minor repairs to the road in the past. The length of the roadway is about 400 metres.
