The top High school throwers will be in action at today's third staging of the Big Shot Invitational at Kingston College. Action begins at 9:00 a.m.
The biggest shot could well come from Ramone Birch of Jamaica College (JC). Birch has the season's best throw - 15.65 metres - and is favoured to keep his long-time rivals from Class Two, Sean Samuels of Calabar and Keiton Wilson of KC, at bay in Class One.
Samuels and Wilson had a fierce competition at the Douglas Forrest meet with Samuels beating Wilson with a throw of 15.09m. The latter then threw 14.89m.
Sponsored by Gatorade and Western Sports, the Big Shot meet will see Birch leading a formidable JC trio in the Class One discus. His schoolmates are Damion Johnson and Shane Dodd.
Odaine Richards of St. George's College, the season leader at 45.18m (Wata/JC meet), along with Calabar's Noel Facey and Samuels, will find Wilson aiming to defend his honour at his home ground.
Canigga Raynor of Bridgeport has the top 2007 throw in the Class Two discus, 45.91 metres, but lost to Michael Cameron of St. George's College in the shot. Cameron has the leading shot put mark at 14.75m.
The Vere Technical pair of Champs shot medal winner Kenesiah Throughsingh and Kimoya Harriott are the top entries in the girl's section.
