Granville hunt hat-trick of wins
published: Saturday | January 20, 2007

Adrian Frater, News Editor

Western Bureau:

Granville, the leaders in Zone B and the only team yet to drop a point in the 2006-07 Captain's Bakery Western Super League, will be gunning for a hat-trick of victories this afternoon when they play host to Montpelier in one of six scheduled third-round games.

"We are extremely confident as we see playing at home as a big advantage," said Granville's coach Mrs. Tracey Reid, whose team registered 4-1 and 1-0 wins against Clark's Town and Grange Hill in their previous two games.

She added: "However, we know we cannot afford to be complacent."

While Granville should be full of confidence, they should be wary of Montpelier, the beaten finalist last year. While they were less than impressive in their 3-1 loss to Salt Spring in their last game, they showed pretty decent ability in their season-opening 2-1 win against Holland.

In other two Zone B games, Grange Hill FC, which started their campaign with a 1-0 win against Salt Spring, but were stung 1-0 by Granville, will be seeking to return to winning ways against Clark's Town; while newcomers Holland United, which had a big 3-1 win against Clark's Town in their last game, will be aiming to make Salt Spring their second victim.

In Zone A, champions Negril FC, where surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw by Sandy Bay after starting the season with a 1-0 win over the much-vaunted Mount Salem, should start favourites playing away to newcomers Black Diamond.

However, fresh from a 1-0 win against Orange Hill in their last game, the Black Diamond team cannot be slighted.

"I believe we have a much better team than last year," said Negril's coach Junior Francis. "We are confident that we will retain the title so the onus is now on the players to go out and get the job done."

In the other Zone A game Mount Salem, which erased the bitterness of their first round 1-0 loss to Negril in clipping Bamboo 1-0 in their last game, should start favourites against Orange Hill, which is yet to win a game, while an exciting contest is anticipated between Holland United and Clark's Town, which were both victorious in the last games.

Today's Game

Black Diamond vs Negril @ UDC (MoBay)

Holland United vs Salt Spring @ William Knibb

Clark's Town vs Grange Hill @ Cedric Titus

Bamboo vs Sandy Bay @ Bamboo

Mt. Salem vs Orange Hill @ Tucker

Granville FC vs Montpelier @ Sam Sharpe.
