T&T, Leewards chase full points
published: Saturday | January 20, 2007

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

With just eight points from the first two matches of their campaign, title-holding Trinidad & Tobago will be seeking maximum points when they clash with Leeward Islands in a crucial third round Carib Beer Series match starting today, at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.

Left-handed batsman Darren Bravo, bowling all-rounder Ravi Rampaul and wicketkeeper/batsman Gibran Mohammed have replaced Dwayne Bravo, Rayad Emrit and Denesh Ramdin - all of whom are on duty with the West Indies team in India - in the Trinidadian team. For Rampaul, it is a welcome return to the team for the four-day fixture, having been sidelined for over two years with various injuries.

"Basically, we are looking to carry the winning ways from the KFC Cup matches into this important game," T&T skipper Daren Ganga said.

Three team changes

The Leewards, joint second in the standings with Jamaica on nine points, have also made three changes to the team that played against leaders Barbados. They have replaced Runako Morton, Austin Richards and Gavin Tonge with Javia Liburd, Maxford Pipe and Chaka Hodge.

"We are hungry to win the championship this year. We have come out to win. We will be taking every- thing in stride against Trinidad and Tobago," manager Alton Grant said.
