Jamaica's senior coach, Junior Bennett, is anticipating a competitive third round Carib Beer Series match against Guyana at Kensington Park, starting today at 10:00 a.m.
"I think (Guyana) is a very good unit, they have been consistent over the years, they have one of the most experienced players, Ramnaresh Sarwan, who is around with them now, Reon King, and Mahendra Nagamootoo," he said during his team's training session at Elletson Road yesterday.
"They have a talented group of players, so I believe it's going to be a competitive match," added Bennett.
He, however, believes his team, which defeated the Guyaneese at this same venue in 2005, can repeat.
"We just want to go out there and play some good cricket," he said. "Once we play some good cricket and execute efficiently, we will be very, very competitive," Bennett said.
He added: "I think our cricket is improving.
"The real challenges are ahead of us right now. As you know the other teams we're down to play, they've the real firepower ... we just have to go out there and play some good cricket."
SARWAN OPTIMISTIC
Meanwhile, Guyana's Test batsman Sarwan said their chances are very good.
"I think it (chances) is very good," he said during his team's training session at Melbourne Oval yesterday.
"Obviously, you've got to remain optimistic about the whole situation," said Sarwan, who watched from the sidelines as his team's two opening matches ended in no-result.
"Jamaica has a whole lot of talent and that is one of the things I've respected them for over the years, they produce talented players and they are very positive."
He, too, believes it's going to be a very competitive encounter.
"I think it's going to be a good game of cricket and we are looking forward to it," added the batsman who will be playing his first game in over six weeks after suffering hairline fracture on the team's Asian tour.
He made it clear that after two no-results, they will be under pressure to win, but believes it provides a "... great opportunity for us to bounce back. I am sure we will have four days of cricket here in Jamaica, the sun seems to be OK and it's a great opportunity for us to get a win here."
