Diplomatic Week starts today
published: Monday | January 22, 2007

The annual Diplomatic Week, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, will commence today with a number of ambassadors accredited to Jamaica, the majority based overseas, presenting their credentials to Governor-General Professor Kenneth Hall. They will also present copy Letters of Credence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Anthony Hylton.

The week's major focus is to update ambassadors and high com-missioners accredited to Jamaica, on Government policies and pro-grammes in order to enhance a better awareness and understanding of the environment in which they operate. The week also provides an opportunity for feedback and interaction.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller will host a luncheon on Wednesday in honour of the diplomats.

Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Omar Davies, and Minister Hylton will address the diplomats on Wednesday.

Their Excellencies, The Most Honourable Professor Kenneth Hall and the Most Honourable Mrs. Hall will host the annual Diplomatic Dinner on Thursday evening at King's House.

Minister Hylton as well as the Dean of the Consular Corps, Mr. Grantley Stephenson will host receptions. Diplomats will also be special guests at the Kiwanis Cub of Kingston weekly luncheon.

A tour of places of interest in the capital city, on Friday, including Sabina Park and the National Gallery, will wrap up the Week's activities.
