The Editor, Sir:
The opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) publicly chastised and condemned the ruling People's National Party (PNP) for taking money from a foreign entity for election campaigning. Hinting that the PNP was involved in corruption, they bawled and promised the people reform to campaign financing.
Bill to Parliament
The JLP told us that they will be presenting (fast-tracking) a bill to Parliament to meet this end. Independent Member of Parliament, Mr. Abe Dabdoub, the sponsor of another bill (re campaign financing) is the sole voice in the 'ethics wilderness'. He states that he will not cave into pressure from the PNP and the JLP into withdrawing his bill.
We are told that the Opposition JLP and the governing PNP have 'forged an understanding' in regard to campaign financing. We all should be wary any time the Opposition and Government, behind closed doors, 'forge an understanding'. I submit that it's never in the interest of Jamaica, and is always another fraud they will commit upon the people of Jamaica.
It should be clear to all by now that Jamaica will never be better off under the politics of the JLP or the PNP.
Only a 'St. Lucian surprise', (upset victory) can save Jamaica; eleven seats for the NDM and the remaining seats split 22/23 vice versa, between the PNP and the JLP.
I am, etc.,
