Substitute Fabian Taylor was the hero for title-chasing Harbour View yesterday as they grabbed a last gasp winner of relegation-battling Wadadah at the Elliston Wakeland Centre yesterday.
Taylor's heroics were aided by the industry of captain Lovel Palmer, who showed strength and determination as he motored his way down the right flank and crossed inside for substitute Kemar Peterkin. Peterkin held the ball up before laying off for Taylor to spin inside the 18-yard box and guide a left-footer just inside the right upright. The goal precipated an eruption from the small band of Harbour View supporters who journeyed to the game. It brought a welcome smile to their faces having witnessed the earlier ejection of forward Gregg Taylor for serious foul play.
"You can see the elation. This was really important for us. It took a while for us to get the goal, but we played stout-heartedly," the beaming Harbour View coach, Lenworth Hyde Snr., said at the end of the game, as his team progressed to 40 points to keep the pressure on leaders and defending champions Waterhouse.
"The style of the Wadadah team and the wind frustrated us but I told them that we had to find a way. Fabian has been delivering for us day in day out and I have to lift my hat to him," Hyde added.
"I am just vexed. I was shouting instructions to them to lock shop and they did not. The ball got by three defenders in the final third," a visibly disappointed Anthony 'Follies' Williams, coach of Wadadah said,
as his charges remained in danger of relegation, second from bottom on 15 points.
