Village United of Trelawny condemned Boys' Town to their third straight defeat with a 2-1 victory over the Collie Smith Drive-based team in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) football match at Waterhouse Mini Stadium yesterday.
Goals by Newton Sterling (29th minute) and Kristopher Stone (61st) pushed Village to 24 points, while Boys' Town remained on 19. Their consolation goal was scored by their leading marksman, George Vernal, in the 63rd minute.
Sterling scored with a well weighted header, then turned provider 15 minutes after the interval when he delightfully glanced a header into the path of Stone, who drove home past the hapless Kirk Porter in goal to make it 2-0.
Vernon pulled one back for Boys' Town two minutes later, but the Andrew Price-conditioned team couldn't find the equaliser.
Cassman Williams, coach of Village United, said: "I am pleased with the effort of the players, especially Kristopher Stone who was starting his first game and scored."
Boys' Town playing in their second home game away from the comfort of Collie Smith Drive, put in a better performance, but lacked finishing.
"The execution was poor today...we are really reeling with a lot of injuries."
