Shaw's double lifts August Town
published: Monday | January 22, 2007

Ainsley Walters, Freelance Writer

Shaw

AUGUST TOWN yesterday moved further away from the relegation zone after dourly holding on to a 2-1 win over struggling Naggo Head in a heated battle of promoted teams at Ferdie Neita Park.

Daniel Shaw scored from the penalty spot in the 24th minute and blasted in a 61st minute free-kick from 20 yards which left goalie Leon Goffe and his wall admiring the shot as it flew into goal.

Victory pushed August Town to 19 points and closer to mid-table whereas Naggo Head remained winless, rooted to the foot of the Wray and Nephew Premier League standings on three points.

Naggo Head got their consolation goal in the 86th minute after August Town's substitute goalkeeper spilled defender Andre Darby's 20-odd yard free-kick and the ball spun out of his grasp and into goal. August Town won bragging rights and maximum points in a match which drew an animated home crowd due to forward Carlos Barrett's move from Naggo Head to the visiting team.

However, the result could have been different had Barrett's older brother, Layton, converted a 39th minute penalty for Naggo Head with August Town leading 1-0.
