Female students quarrel, one stabbed
published: Tuesday | January 23, 2007

WESTERN BUREAU:

Classes were disrupted at the Rusea's High School in Hanover yesterday following a dispute between two female students, one of whom was stabbed five times.

The alleged assailant, who resides at Grange Hill, Westmoreland, has been taken into police custody.

It is said that the two 11th graders, both 16-year-old, were reportedly arguing over a longstanding dispute which dates back to grade nine. The source of the argument was still unclear at press time.

Humiliation

According to a male student, the incident has humiliated the institution.

"Is the first I know of something like this happening at the school; I felt very bad about the incident and so did other students. There was a big crowd after the fight occurred," he commented. "The girl who got stabbed is okay now; she is at home and the other one is with the police."

The Gleaner also learnt that the student body was called to an assembly at the close of school, where they participated in a therapy session with the principal and the school's guidance counsellor.

Argument

Reports are that, shortly after 9:00 a.m., the two girls were in a classroom when they got into an argument. One of them allegedly pulled a knife and used the weapon to stab the other.

The injured girl was taken to the Noel Holmes Hospital where she was treated and released for stab wounds to the hands and head.
