Members of the Medical, Health and Anti-Doping Directorate (MHA) of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 will be reviewing their tournament plans and a number of related initiatives when they convene later this week.
"We want to ensure that we can put them into operation effectively and efficiently," MHA chairperson Dr. Marion Bullock-DuCasse said in a release from ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
During the January 25 to 27 meeting, which will take place in Barbados, the directorate will also check overlay drawings for each stadium to ensure the MHA's facilities are in place and, more importantly, that patients can be manoeuvred within venues as necessary and to hospitals for referral and diagnostics.
"As far as public health is concerned, we will be focusing on food safety, vector control and the monitoring of waste management at facilities and at ports of entry," she disclosed, adding that the nine Local Organising Committees (LOCs) are "on track" in integrating the MHA component with other functional areas.
In addition, the region's medical team for CWC will review the ICC Anti-Doping Policy and the ICC Anti-Doping Code and finalise plans for ensuring the smooth implementation of doping-control testing and sample analysis.
Other matters on the agenda include:
medical job functions, tournament services (relative to MHA's mandate), designated
no-smoking and smoking areas and international health regulations.
Representatives from the Caribbean Community, the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre and the Pan-American Health Organisation will participate in the meeting.
