Adamou assault case set for Feb 9
published: Friday | January 26, 2007

The case of the man accused of assaulting American-born business-woman, Kimberly Adamou, has been set for trial on February 9 in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court, St. Catherine.

Clerk of the Courts, Pearnel Charles Jr., told The Gleaner on Wednesday that he had informed the court on Tuesday that he wrote to the Director of Public Prosecutions on June 6 last year, as to whether a nolle prosequi should be entered in the case. He explained that since he wrote to the DPP, he and the DPP were in constant dialogue about the case.

He said the DPP directed him to have the matter set for trial, and so February 9 was set for the trial to commence.

Mr. Charles said that Resident Magistrate Sharon George queried whether he had received a written response from the DPP in regards to the nolle prosequi (no proceedings) and he told her no.

"The DPP has certainly responded to me (verbally)," Mr. Charles emphasised, noting that "there is no need to receive a nolle prosequi or anything in writing at this time."
