Pollard guides T&T to victory
published: Friday | January 26, 2007

SCARBOROUGH, Tobago (CMC):

A POLISHED half-century from the aggressive Kieron Pollard propelled Trinidad and Tobago to their third successive win in the KFC Cup with an easy five-wicket victory over Leeward Islands at Shaw Park yesterday.

The powerful 19-year-old Pollard struck a brisk 69 as the hosts, chasing Leewards' modest 176 all out off 48.2 overs, reached their 177 for five off 36.3 overs.

Pollard, whose form as brought him two centuries in the Carib Beer Series, slammed three fours and five sixes in his knock which lasted a mere 56 balls.

Pollard has now scored 204 runs from three innings in the series at an average of 68.

He received good support from 16-year-old opener Adrian Barath who struck 41 from 59 balls with five fours. Pollard was named Man of the Match for his effort. Former West Indies youth player Lionel Baker was the top wicket-taker for the Islanders with two for 52.

T&T started their run chase disastrously, losing William Perkins for nought without a run on the board, but Barath and captain Daren Ganga (16) restored order with a 41-run second wicket stand.
