The Editor, Sir:
I am amazed at the no-holds-barred effort to put in place the best of everything for visitors coming to Jamaica for the upcoming Cricket World Cup. Then I wonder when the desires of the Jamaican people to have decent water, transportation and education facilities will ever be treated with as much dispatch as the prompt and elaborate facilities being done to host the few games to be played in Jamaica.
I feel of little value, not having the wherewithal to have the Government or business leadership function with so much zeal, by creating the aforementioned infrastructure upgrades for me and all those who live here.
DESCENDANTS OF
THE PLANTOCRACY
Short of having these types of events more often, there is not much I, as a Jamaican, will get it seems, from my Government. Then again, political and business leaders are direct descendants of the plantocracy, and want their heritage to be ensured for their own friends and family. They should be lauded for their adherence to the mores and culture that have made so many of us professional and financial paupers in our own country.
In the meantime, we the people should be looking for our own leadership, so these people can rejoin their heritage within the shores of the empire in Europe or wherever they came from. Amazing what a little cricket can do.
I am, etc.,
