The Editor, Sir:I am a graduate of a reputable teachers' college in Kingston where I graduated with an award for the most innovative student and major in social studies.
In order to do my studies, I had to borrow money from the Students' Loan Bureau. I have been out three years now, of which, I worked at two schools for two years and four months. Since September 2006, I have been out of a job because these teachers have resumed their jobs at their respective schools.
What is the Gov't doing?
I would like to know what the Government and the Ministry of Education, in particular, are doing for persons like me who cannot get any employment in the high schools near us or even in the primary schools. If vacancy exists in primary schools, the principals are not taking us because we did secondary courses.
The questions that I am asking are: How are we going to pay our bills and student loan? How will we survive? What is the Ministry of Education doing to solve problems like mine? Are we cloning teachers to take up positions that exist in some particular schools? Are all teachers teachers?
Kindly let us know, Ministry of Education.
I am, etc.,
