JAMAICAN INTERNATIONAL Jermaine Johnson is on his way to English Championship side Sheffield Wednesday from First Division Bradford, after a contractual agreement worth about £500,000 (J$65,500,000) was reached earlier this week.
Johnson signed with Bradford from local National Premier League outfit Tivoli Gardens last summer.
The player made an immediate impact with club officials and fans alike and, along with national custodian Donovan Ricketts, was given a two-year contract extension in November.
Omar Daley signed
Bradford City, who were hunting for quality wingers during the January transfer window, also signed another Reggae Boy, Omar Daley from USL First Division team Charleston Battery. It is likely that the 25-year-old Daley will be expected to take up the role played by national teammate Johnson at the club.
Bradford City boss Colin Todd expressed reluctance to part with Johnson but had insisted that if the right bid came along, the club, which picked up the winger for very little, would accept it. The 26-year-old's contract had a clause which allowed him to speak to other teams if an offer above a certain amount was made.
£250,000 bid refused
Bradford had been reported to have turned down a £250,000 bid from Championship team Derby County last month.
Sheffield Wednesday, who also signed another Reggae Boy - Deon Burton - early last season, finalised work permit arrangements for the winger on Tuesday and his contract should see him at the club until the summer of 2010. Johnson will not be able to make his debut for the club until February 10, however, as he must first serve a two-match ban after being sent off in the 2-0 home defeat to Yeovil last weekend. It is reported that Wednesday were among five teams interested in the player.
