B Town tame Lions

PREMIER LEAGUE representatives Boys' Town got their Red Stripe Champions Cup campaign off to a flying start when they eased past South Central Super League team Tafari Lions 2-0 at the Collie Smith Drive sports ground, yesterday.

After a scoreless first half, Red Brigade central defender Kimarley McDonald fired the home team into the lead in the 58th minute. McDonald drifted away from the Tafari Lions' back line, which had deemed the player to be offside, before blasting past their custodian, Peter Gayle.

In a game which produced limited legitimate goalscoring opportunities - particularly for the Lions, striker Peter Keyes finished things off in the 79th minute. Sprinting on to a bouncing Marvin Morgan through ball, Keyes pushed wide before volleying back across an outstretched Gayle.

In other games, fellow top-flight football representatives, Village United, turned in a dominant performance when they spanked Sporting Central 3-0 at the Elliston Wakeland Centre.

The burly Newton Sterling fired the home team into the lead in the 41st minute before new signing Kristopher Stone continued his impressive goalscoring record with a 64th-minute strike. Sterling then returned to wrap things up with a goal in the 83rd minute.

At the Tucker Irwin playing field in St. James, a Kemar Sterling hat-trick saw Salt Spring come from a goal down to hammer Downs FC 5-2. Noel Wint put the visitors in the lead in the 19th minute, but a goal on the stroke of half-time by Sterling saw things all-square going into the break.

At the restart, Salt Spring continued their onslaught as Timothy Bryan (47th), Darel Murray (51st) struck before Sterling completed his hat-trick with 53rd- and 56th-minute goals. Gawayne Banton netted a consolation strike for Downs in the 66th minute.

At Lynch Park, August Town slipped by St. Georges 1-0, thanks to a 13th-minute goal by Aphas Bernard.

At the Spanish Town Prison Oval, Bodle and Wadadah played their way to a 0-0 draw.
