CCN reveals wanted man's name before ID parade
published: Wednesday | February 7, 2007

Mark Titus, Freelance Writer

After eluding the police for several years, the most wanted man in the St. Catherine South division was apprehended in a pre-dawn raid in Windsor Heights, yesterday.

The identity of the man, who is wanted for a number of shootings and murders throughout the division, was withheld, pending an identification parade.

However, the Jamaica Constabulary Force's lack of cohesiveness in relation to communication came to the fore when the Constabulary Communication Network revealed the identity of the suspect, despite the division's intention to conduct an identification parade - a move that sources close to the situation fear could compromise the investigation.

Four alleged members of a phone-stealing ring operating in Central Village were also taken into custody for questioning and about 22 cellular phones were seized.

"This year, we have had problems in the Waterford and Central Village areas and we have put our resources into these areas. This has resulted in a lessening of criminal activities," said Deputy Superintendent of Police Carl Ferguson, operations officer in charge of the division.

"We have taken full control of our streets because we intend to disrupt the flow of criminality," he added.
