TIVOLI GARDENS High strengthened their chances of securing a spot in the semi-finals of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) boys' Under-19 competition with a 1-0 victory over Excelsior at the Mona field on Tuesday.
Tivoli are now in second place on six points in Zone B - six behind runaway leaders Jamaica College who have already qualified for the semi-finals. Papine, who are in third place in the zone on three points, are still in with a slight chance of making it to the semi-finals should they win their two remaining matches.
Also in action Tuesday, Kingston College (KC) defeated Campion College 2-1.
Well-placed cross
KC dominated the early going and were rewarded in the seventh minute when Kevin Bartley fired home a well-placed cross from teammate Sheldon Williams past goalkeeper Orville Morgan.
Three minutes later, Campion College were awarded a penalty but Adrian Cross's shot was spectacularly saved by goalkeeper Martin Green. Mosi Morgan came close to giving Campion College the equaliser on the stroke of halftime but his clear shot on goal went just wide of the target.
Ten minutes after the break, Nicholas Hudson equalised for Campion College when he latched on to a pass from teammate Kimani Durrant and fired home a powerful right-handed shot past Green.
Williams scored the winning goal for KC two minutes from time when he dribbled his way past three Campion College defenders, then around Morgan to walk the ball into the goal.
In today's games, Papine oppose St. Andrew Technical (STATHS) at 2:00 p.m. and Alpha tackle Papine girls at 4: 30 p.m.
