From Trelawny to Australia and back, Camielle 'Empress' Mullings is finding true happiness in Jamaica. She is now host of 'Di Show' on RE TV, as well as Reggae Entertainment and Musical Passport on BET J.

But that is not enough; she is also trying her hand at the music business.

Gleaner: How did you get started in the media?

Empress: I've always been in school plays, singing in church and always loved people. When I was in Australia, I signed to a record label, and in Los Angeles and New York working with independent stations, auditioning for movie roles, etc.

The hustle got too hard and too challenging, so I moved home to Jamaica and started my TV career on RE TV. And now BET J came knocking and much more coming in 2007.

What is your dream job?

Touring the world with a band, two hot backing singers and selling my CDs.

What is your best moment working in the media?

Travelling around the world, meeting new people, trying new cultural foods and learning new languages.

Have you been faced with negative remarks?

Oh yes! 'Mi no like har hair', 'she too nuff' , 'she talk too much' and so on. But I love it, because they're talking 'bout me and I haven't a clue what their name is. Dem too bad mind. Watch yuhself, dem neva hear mi?

If not television, what would you be doing?

Well, what I's doing now; music, music, music and owning my fashion boutique. Maybe if or when I'm finally rich I can own an orphanage for children from Jamaica and Africa who just need love and guidance.

What is your favourite show (local or international)?

Um, I don't watch much TV, but I always loved shows like The Cosbys and Good Times.

Who are your favourite media personalities (local or international)?

Hmm, again I love watching Oliver Samuels for some reason. Lad, as I said, I don't have a favourite but give me Jamie Foxx, Cuba Gooding, Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington any day.

What turns you off about people?

Liars, negative people, Black people not in touch with their roots, people who bleach their skins, jealous people, insecure and extra-needy personalities.

If you could meet any one person, who would he/she be?

Oprah Winfrey.

What is one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?
