PNP to decide on Dabdoub

When the National Executive Council (NEC) of the People's National Party (PNP) meets on March 25, Abe Dabdoub, former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Member of Parliament, is likely to emerge as the party's candidate for the West Portland constituency in the upcoming election.

General Secretary of the party, Donald Buchanan, told The Gleaner yesterday that Mr. Dabdoub had received support from constituents of West Portland and a meeting would be held later this month to confirm the candidate.

"There are a number of comrades in West Portland who have indicated through our process that they would wish for comrade Dabdoub to be the candidate," he said.

Withdrawal

PNP Member of Parliament, Errol Ennis, currently occupies the seat, but has indicated that he would not be running in the next general elections.

The PNP will also announce its candidate for South East St. Ann at the March 25 NEC meeting. Member of Parliament Aloun Assamba pulled out of the race to represent the party in the next general elections, after persistent calls from constituency executives for her to step down.

Meanwhile, according to Mr. Buchanan, several persons have expressed an interest in representing the party in North West St. Elizabeth. Last week, former candidate/caretaker Lloyd Myrie tendered his resignation, saying he was quitting for personal reasons.

However, it was later revealed that Mr. Myrie was facing a charge of indecent assault and carnal abuse involving a 15-year-old girl. He has been remanded and is scheduled to appear in court today. The offences were allegedly committed during 2005 and 2006.
