A father's plea
published: Friday | February 9, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

If fathers are so important, then why is it so darned hard to even get visitation to see your children? Why do we have to fight so much? Why does the Family Court pay such scant regard to fathers? Why do mothers keep our children away from us?

I was one of the lucky dads who got custody. I am the envy of all my male friends. They look at me in awe, as I have brought up a fine young man all by myself for 14 years now.

Our prisons are filled with men who grew up in single-female-headed households. Most of society's ills are blamed on "fatherlessness", yet we continue to give mothers custody of children and many fathers lose contact with their children after two years.

I am, etc.,

Concerned Father
