The National Works Agency (NWA) will be spending $6 million to clean and repair one kilometre of the gully network between Stand Pipe, Barbican Road and Key Drive in Liguanea, St. Andrew.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Housing, Transport, Water and Works, Richard Azan, noted that work on this project started yesterday Wednesday, February 7, and is expected to be completed within two weeks. He said that the work would include removal of debris, broken walls and slab sections, which would then be repaired.
Speaking during a tour of the community, Mr. Azan said that the project is being undertaken in collaboration with the National Solid Waste Management Agency (NSWMA) which will be providing drums for the residents. He encouraged residents to use the drums for garbage disposal and refrain from using the gully as a dump.
The gully cleaning and repair project is being undertaken as part of the NWA's special flood damage and emergency work programme and is also part of efforts to stave off the the possible threat of disease in the community.
