Jamaicans excel at Indiana Relays

WORLD JUNIOR sprint relay gold medallist Kerron Stewart and Wilbert Walker were double winners at the weekend's Indiana Relays hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington.

Stewart, representing Auburn, was in splendid form, winning the 60m in 7.27 and the women's Invitational 200m in 23.25 seconds, both NCAA automatic qualifying marks. Fellow Jamaican Tracey-Ann Rowe was second in the women's 200m in 23.95 seconds.

Walker won the men's long and triple jumps with leaps of 7.48m and 16.21m, an NCAA automatic qualifying mark, respectively. In the College women's 200m, Nicheshia Anderson of Missouri Baptist took the gold in 24.24 .

Twin sisters Camile and Carlene Robinson won the women's 400m and 600m in 55.63 and 1:30.11 respectively.

Decosma Wright of Lincoln finished second in the 60m hurdles in 7.83, an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Winners

Meanwhile, national champion Ricardo Chambers, Simone Facey and Sherene Pinnock were also winners on the weekend. At the New Balance Collegiate Invitational held at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York, Chambers won the men's 400m in 46.23 second.

At the same meet, Facey won the 60m dash in 7.34 seconds. Another Jamaican, Samantha Henry of Louisiana State (LSU) was third in 7.40.

Facey returned to finish second in the 200m event in 23.47, beaten by Trinidad and Tobago's 2005 Carifta Games champion Kelly-Ann Baptiste (23.37).

Tresha Henry of Texas A&M (23.92) was seventh while Henry (24.05) was ninth.

Clora Williams, also of Texas A&M, was second in the women's 400m in 53.60. The event went to World Junior gold medallist Natasha Hastings of South Carolina (52.12).

Andrea Linton of LSU (12.49m) was seventh in the women's triple jump. Yvette Lewis of Hampton (13.49m) won the event.

Shaunette Davidson (1.73m) was seventh in the women's high jump won by Alabama's Miruma Mataoanu (1.84m).
