Cable & Wireless Jamaica (C&WJ) has signed on as a gold sponsor of the annual Sigma Corporate Run with a $350,000 contribution to the charity event calendared for February 25.

The telecom said it would also provide an Internet café and Voice over Internet Protocol stations for free browsing and international calls available to participants of the fund run.

The funds raised this year will go to Jamaica AIDS Support.

C&WJ has been a sponsor of the Corporate Run since its inception eight years ago, but boosted its financial support this year because of the beneficiary of the event.

The telecom's president Rodney Davis is also chair of the Jamaica Business Council on HIV/AIDS.

"The Jamaica Aids Support deserves the full support of all of corporate Jamaica in its fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS," said a company release quoting Davis.

"It is a given that without the support and commitment of corporate Jamaica in this effort, the nation's children and adults alike will continue to be vulnerable to this dreadful disease."

More than 100 C&WJ employees will participate in the Run this year scheduled for Emancipation Park in New Kingston.
