What a shame
published: Wednesday | February 14, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

A country's success is directly proportionate to its government. It is evident that the Jamaican Govern-ment does not have a grip on the current situation in Jamaica. While the Tourist Board and other private sectors are benefiting, the real Jamaican struggler, the single mothers, the grandparents who are raising fatherless children, remain hopeless.

If a country has no control in the waters in which it is surrounded by or has no control over the children and the elderly getting murdered, then it is time for a change. It is time for Jamaicans to demand more from their government. The private organisations that are seeing a profit despite the unrest should step up and start making contributions to the land and the people. Give the police the equipment they need to do their job more effectively. Until the Jamaican people demand better government and more loyal and honest police officers, the headlines will be the same. What a shame.

I am, etc.,
