People's Telecom shoulders medical programme for kids
published: Wednesday | February 14, 2007

People's Telecom Jamaica Ltd. has undertaken to help save the lives of Jamaican children with serious heart conditions.

The new and thriving telecommunications company is the major sponsor of a project which brings a group of medical doctors to Jamaica, to perform open heart surgery on children who otherwise would not have been able to benefit from this life-saving procedure.

The medical team, operating under the name, the Jamaican Children's Heart Fund Inc (JCHF), flies in from the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in South Florida on Friday, February 23, and will spend three days performing surgery on children with paediatric congenital and acquired heart disease. The doctors will be hosted by the University Hospital of the West Indies.

Devoted personal time

The JCHF medical teams have devoted personal time and are providing their medical skills at no cost. They have performed over 80 life-saving heart surgeries in Jamaica over the past several years.

In addition to sponsoring the doctors' trip to Jamaica, People's Telecom Jamaica will also be providing telecommunication and transportation services to the medical team during their visit.

People's Telecom Jamaica Ltd. prides itself on being the first 100 per cent locally-owned telecommunications provider in the island.
