Defence lawyers were granted an adjournment on Monday in the murder case of 35-year-old St. Andrew businessman Steven Grant.

Mr. Justice Horace Marsh granted the adjournment and the case is now set for trial on April 30 in the Home Circuit Court. The adjournment was sought on the grounds that K. Churchill Neita, Q.C., was recently retained to lead the defence team.

Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn, who is representing the Crown, told the court that the Crown was ready to proceed with the trial.

Grant is charged with the murder of 17-year-old Dunoon Technical High School student Kymani Bailey. He was shot 13 times outside the Asylum Nightclub in New Kingston on April 18, 1999.

Grant was convicted on February 28, 2003, of the murder but the United Kingdom Privy Council allowed his appeal and remitted the case to the Court of Appeal which ordered a new trial.
