Cross country trials on today

THE TRU-Juice/JAAA National Cross Country Championships are on this morning at Tru-Juice Orange Groves, Bog Walk, St. Catherine.

The first race is set for 8:30 while the final event is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

The championships will be used by the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) to select its teams to the NACAC Cross Country Championship in Clermont, Florida, on March 3.

The championships will see runners awarded trophies and prize money of $7,000 for first place, $5,000 for second and $3,000 for third in the Junior Women 4K, Junior Men 6K, Senior Women 6K and the Senior Men 8K.

Jamaica's top women's middle-distance runners, Mardrea Hyman and Korene Hinds, are expected to take part. They will be joined by the likes of Tamica Thomas and Areita Martin while Wainard Talbert, Andrew Gutzmore and Rupert Green will feature in the men's section.
