'Roaring '20s' reflections
published: Friday | February 23, 2007

Reflections of 1920s ruled the Hilton Kingston hotel's ballroom on Saturday, February 17, as members and friends of the American Women's Group (AWG) partied in fine style.

Sporting the stylish headbands that ruled the '20s, the women were absolutely gorgeous in sequinned dresses that hugged their bodies in all the right places.

The men were not to be outdone, as they, too, were fashionably attired. For them, all-white, red and black with white stripes were the theme of the night.

The 'Roaring '20s Ball and Silent Auction' proved to be no ordinary charity event.

Prizes and surprises

Looking lovely for the ball are, from left: Sue Robinson, director of administration at Swim Jamaica, Caryl McLean, Marina Pashnykova (member AWG), and Jackie Dorsey, AWG's second vice-president.

A variety of merchandise, including paintings, portraits, vases, pottery, fancy telephones, communication tools and decorative home items, were just a few of the items that were up for bidding. The main prize of the night, however, was a spanking new Suzuki Grand Vitara.

President of the AWG, Trefina Asiedu, thanked all who attended for their support in assisting the AWG to fulfil its goal of sending numerous Jamaican children to school.

"... This will help determine a brighter future for Jamaica children," Mrs. Asiedu said.

Following dinner, the Unique Vision Band got guests out on the dance floor, showing off their dance moves to a string of hit songs from the '60s upward.
