EDITORIAL - Social values and public cleanliness
We have no impulse to gloat and feel no compulsion to say: 'We told you so'. Nonetheless, there is gratification in the acknowledgement by the Health Minister, Mr. Horace Dalley, that the country faces a grave and present danger, which would have been easily avoidable if the administration had been paying attention all along.
Saving our history
For the past week, the Edna Manley statue of Paul Bogle has stood before the charred remains of the Morant Bay Courthouse in St. Thomas. In life, 142 years ago, he was hanged on the orders of Governor Edward Eyre at this site... Now he stands strong and defiant as if saying, "Fire can destroy my final shame, but my memory will remain visible for another thousand years" (Neita).
Church clean-up seen as misguided
The Editor, Sir: I consider myself a Christian but I must say that some days I feel like hanging my head in shame, covering my face in embarrassment, or simply shaking my head and walking away dumbfounded.

Recently the British Broadcasting Corporation conducted a worldwide poll on what has made the foremost contribution to world public health in the last 150 years. The consensus was surprising having nothing dealing directly to health science, but was simply good plumbing, sanitation, and clean water.
