Police look to extend lead in Super League
published: Saturday | February 24, 2007

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

Leaders Police National will try to extend their lead atop the Jamaica National/KSAFA Super League today when they play Constant Spring at the Barbican field, starting at 3:30 p.m.

In the other games, Bull Bay host Meadheaven United at Bull Pen; Greenwich Town versus Duhaney Park at Tinson Pen; Mountain View tackle Cavalier at Constant Spring; Maverley-Hughenden take on Santos at Maverley and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) play Barbican at Up Park Camp.

Police National, on 33 points, are four ahead of Meadheaven and will be hoping to widen the gap with a victory over Constant Spring.

However, that won't be an easy task becaus Constant Spring are languishing in ninth position on 17 points, they can hold their own against any team in the league.

The last time they met in December, Police National won 1-0 and a repeat of that performance is not beyond them.

Second-placed Meadheaven on 29 points face a difficult trip to seventh-placed Bull Bay on 18 points. Both teams drew 1-1 in their last meeting and another close encounter is expected.

Widening gap

Any slip ups from the David Hunt-coached Meadheaven could see the gap widening to seven points. Bull Bay have won only once in their last seven outings and could fall prey to a title-chasing Meadheaven team.

Third-placed JDF on 27 should collect maximum points from cellar team Barbican, rooted to the bottom on seven points.

The marching men of the JDF trail the leaders by six points, but have a game in hand and should secure their ninth win of the season from 15 games.

Barbican remain the only team without a win from 15 games and look destined to play in the Major League next season.

Santos in fourth position on 23 points face a 10th-placed Maverley team struggling on 13, just one above the relegation zone.

The Carlton Dennis-coached Santos should secure their sixth win of the seaso both teams played to a 0-0 draw in December.

Only one point separates fifth-placed Cavalier on 18 points and eighth-placed Mountain View on 17 and a close battle is expected.

Sixth-placed Duhaney Park on 18 points should squeeze out a win over 11th-placed Greenwich Town on 12.
