
PhillipsMinister of National Security Dr. Peter Phillips is on a visit to the South American country of Brazil, where he is meeting with his counterpart minister to discuss a range of issues. The trip is a follow-up to last year's visit to Brazil by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller.
According to a release from the National Security Ministry, during his four-day visit, Dr. Phillips will meet with the Minister of Defence; the Secretary of National Public Security; the Commandant General of the Military Police of the state of Rio de Janeiro; and, the Commander of the Navy.
Discussions will centre on bilateral arrangements for intelligence sharing; exploration of possible sources/suppliers of technology; armaments and, vehicles and other forms of security hardware for both the police and the military.
As president of the CARICOM Sub-Committee in Charge of Crime and Security, Dr. Phillips will also finalise discussions with the Brazilian authorities regarding security assistance for Cricket World Cup 2007, which will be officially launched in Jamaica on March 11.
