Luvs, when the founders of the highly successful SuperClubs chain of hotels launched their Hedonism brand, they obviously thought they were on to a good thing. Just how good a thing they were on to, it's hard to imagine that they knew just how fine and successful a concept the brand would be.
And just how successful is the Hedonism brand? Dears, suffice it to say that in the tourism business here, when other resorts are experiencing downturnsin occupancy and/or off periods, the Hedonism resorts experience no such thing, or since opening their doors having been dancing to the beat of their own drums and honeys, the drumbeat here is high-occupancy.
And really, little wonder here, as the resorts, in Negril and Runaway Bay, St. Ann, market themselves as 'an oasis of pure pleasure!'
Now, no risqu business here in the hotel's offerings, just a fantasy playground where like-minded guests converge from every which corner of the known world, to party! And luvs, when we say party, we do mean party, and heartily so!
Now, for years, those guests seeking an adult playground had to journey to Negril, where Hedonism II was the destination of choice, and where the partying was 24/7, and then some!
Dynamics have changed
With the advent of Hedonism III, some seven years ago, the dynamics have changed, as with its proximity to Kingston and Montego Bay, residents of the island's capital and Second City now have the option of avoiding a long commute for the shorter ride to Runaway Bay. Since opening its doors, Hedonism III has made international revelry of the Romanesque order quite a fashionable experience, and just a hop, skip and jump away from the island's leading social centres.
Well, operating under the theme, 'Be Wicked For A Week', for Kingstonians and/or Montegonians wishing to escape the humdrum and/or drudgery of everyday existence, this concept has been substituted for the more compact version of being wicked for a weekend or a few days.
With the calendar of in-house events offering pyjama night on a Tuesday, and toga night on a Thursday, these two nights are largely considered the hottest party events for the Hedonism experience.
What the doctor ordered
Dearhearts, the midweek getaway was just what the doctor ordered, and then some!
Being President's Day weekend, the resort was booked and over-flowing, but as is the case when that happens, rather than miss out on a good thing, savvy guests checked into the neighbouring HeartHotel or Pipers Cove, and then commuted, using the limited number of nightly passes made available to them.
Doves, a visit to the famed disco, Octopussy, recently renamed Hurricane Night Club, is on the list of a must-dos on this scribe's things you must to before you die, and pumpkins, the pyjama party last Tuesday reaffirmed the ranking of the night club as one of the hottest places in the known world! Daahlings, when the Hurricane cooks, it sizzles like flowing lava!
Now, y'all know that there are those who do sleep in the buff, but at the Hurricane Night Club, that is not an option for pyjama night, and so it's all about the great-looking designer jammies and/or undies and various forms of near-undress, to complete the ensemble. And with the music pumping, and the disco rocking y'all know we are talking the purr-fect recipe for an all out fun-fest!
Now, those of you in the know, would have heard of Studio 54; The Garage and/or even the Palladium. Well, my daahlings, Hurricane Night Club at Hedonism III has the combined energy and sass of all three mentioned hot spots in their heyday!
Oh my word - the oomph, the style, the razzmatazz of it all made for a fantasy beyond compare! Dovecakes, we are talking leather; Victoria Secrets unveiled and in all her splendour; that only the truly hot and fab can don; the voluptuous, the hot and chic, the sexy and the sensual - oh holy Mary, the mother of all sainted virgins, was this heaven or what!
And then it was Thursday - toga night - the most anticipated night in the week, and pumpkins, it lived up to expectation and beyond!
Glamorous antics
To begin with, before the toga parade and dance-off, there was the weekly staff and guests show. It had all the drama of the first-class show and not the rank amateur nights on parade that it actually is! Luvs, from the glamorous antics of female impersonator Spike, in shimmering golden gown and doing his impersonation of American idol star Fantazia; to the sensual delivery by entertainment coordinator Destiny in her rendition of the famed 'Roxie Heart' of Broadways smash hit musical 'Chicago'. She brought the house to its feet with her soooo seductive interpretation of this all-time favourite! And then there were the Hedo Dancers - The Entertainment Crew, as they are popularly known, who danced their way off the stage and into the hearts of those guesting with their professionalism, poise and pathos, it made for a perfectly stimulating climax.
You know they say what happens at Hedo stays at Hedo, but y'all know a secret is no secret unless it is shared with someone else, and so, suffice it to say that they were all there and partying up a royal storm, and luvs, when the Hurricane Disco blows she really blows, and she's been blowing like crazy all week at Hedo III.
They all came out
Well, dovecakes, they all came to party. From the mega wealthy and fashionable Maltese socialite Francesca DeMajo; to the Floridian Alvin AV Warren, three-time repeat guest to Hedonism fresh on a three-week break from active duty in Afghanistan, partying with fellow repeat offenders from the UK Rachel and Paul Norris and Brian and Rhona Ott, now on their ninth trip to the resort. Also, eight beautiful lassies from both Jamaica Tourist Board United Kingdom and Jamaica, were on hand for a bachelorette party before her nuptials on Saturday. The girls had their own private midnight hen party on top of the resort's secluded sunset deck complete with male stripper; Kendis Gibson of Home and Garden TV, on location scouting for an upcoming Travel Feature.
Also there were Linval and Yvonne Rodney, she the director of Brown's Town Community School of Nursing and celebrating her birthday; plus several scores others partying up an almighty tsunami!
