Waterhouse, Harbour View renew rivalry
published: Sunday | February 25, 2007

ARCH RIVALS Waterhouse and Harbour View will renew hostilities this evening when they take centrestage in a Western Union/KSAFA Jackie Bell KO semi-final doubleheader at the National Stadium.

The eagerly anticipated clash of the old foes will be preceded by a West Kingston derby between defending champions Boys' Town and Tivoli Gardens which kicks off the day's proceedings at 4:00 p.m.

Harbour View and Waterhouse are currently first and third in the National Premier League (NPL) after two rounds and only six points separate the teams going into the final dash for the title.

That margin is not one that will give the Stars of the East much comfort as they surrendered a 13-point advantage last season to eventual champions Waterhouse and were relegated to the role of runners-up.

A victory today for either side would not only see them advance to the Corporate Area's KO final but also collect a valuable psychological boost going into the final round of the island's top competition.

Harbour View have had the edge over Waterhouse recently with victories in their past two encounters. Both sides have won the Jackie Bell crown twice - Harbour View in 1996 and 2001 and Waterhouse in 2002 and 2003.

In the curtain-raiser, Boys' Town have struggled in the Premier League this season thanks to injuries and transfers and are sitting in seventh position, but the Red Brigade won't want to surrender their title to inconsistent but dangerous Tivoli Gardens, who are two places above them in the NPL standings.
