Ganja found at Port Esquivel
published: Tuesday | February 27, 2007

OVER 100 POUNDS of compressed ganja was seized yesterday at the Port Esquivel complex in St. Catherine, by a joint team from the Marine Police and Coast Guard.

Head of the Marine Police, Superintendent Marlon Dietrich, said the weed was sealed in a steel canister. It was discovered by divers from the Marine Police beneath a pier at the alumina plant.

Superintendent Dietrich said the Marine Police contacted the Coast Guard shortly after receiving an anonymous phone call about suspicious movement at Port Esquivel, at 9:00 a.m. yesterday.

No arrests have been made.

The Port Esquivel stash is the latest ganja find by the police in the past three weeks. Narcotics police made larger busts in east Kingston and Hellshire, St. Catherine recently.

Two men were arrested by police in the Hellshire seizure.
