Their very own wines
published: Thursday | March 1, 2007

The new line of fine wines being used at all Sandals and Beaches properties in Jamaica and the Caribbean. - Contributed

Tasters say: The Merlot is a balanced wine that is very pleasing in flavour, aroma and taste. It has a light pineapple aroma with a pleasant, light fruity flavour. I especially love that it is medium bodied so it does not have that really intense effect on the palate. Also, it goes well with grilled chicken. It is a lovely wine for light drinkers.

I found the Pino Grigo very light on its own, but much better with chicken.

Very light, almost too light and does not seem to have much flavour; it was almost like it was diluted.

Tastes like a diluted Sauvignon Blanc.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is not bad at all, slightly dry.

This red wine has a fresh taste and that's good.

Good, I like it.

A bit too dry, but the Cabernet Sauvignon has a nice bouquet.

It's good red wine.

This wine was had with lunch of fish, chicken and roast beef. It neutralised all the flavours and I was still able to function well into evening.

Sandals Cellars: Their very own wines

The Sandals chain of hotels has added something new to its menu. It's their very own brand of fine wines. In response to customer feedback, the new Chief Executive Officer, Adam Stewart, said the group decided to move away from the house wines and partner with Beringer Stone Cellar to produce "... the kinds of wines that guests want to drink."

The Sandals-Breezes wines are: "Merlot, White Zinfandel, Pino Grigo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Each label explains the aroma, properties in the wine and offers recommendations for the correct choice of accompanying entree.

"The wines are in all the resorts now. The programme is exclusive to Sandals and Beaches resorts, hence the label and the script on the back of the bottles tha the wines to authentic Caribbean dishes," Mr. Stewart said. He noted also that these pouring wines are not available for sale, but since Beringer is owned by the Fosters Group (largest wine operator in the world operating 50 vineyards), Sandals has access to the most impressive wine list for their managers' and chairman's lists.
