Skin bleaching
published: Thursday | March 1, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Just to shed some more light on the issue of the lightening of the skin by our people, especially our women. As we know, it all stems from the issues of slavery. A fair point, many might say, but I feel black folks have come quite a way to at least start to appreciate who and where they are and the progress we have made to be able to embrace the simple things like the beauty of your skin.

I think the Jamaican Government should be able to at least start looking at banning these products from entering Jamaica which to me is a starting point in trying to change the mindset of a people. In my view, we are among the most prejudiced group of people and something has to be done about how our people perceive themselves.

I am, etc.,
