Howard Walker, Staff ReporterPREMIER LEAGUE outfits August Town, Wadadah and Village advanced to the quarter-finals of the All-Island Red Stripe Champions Cup Knockout competition yesterday.
In the all-Premier League clash at Frome, August Town lost 2-1 to Reno but advanced on the away- goal rule after the tie ended 2-2 on aggregate.
An early strike by Kirk Wright in the sixth minute and Ricardo Scott's 46th-minute goals gave Reno the two-goal cushion that they needed. But Carlos Barrett struck a priceless goal midway through the second half to send Reno packing.
Over at Catherine Hall in St. James, home team Wadadah played to a 1-1 draw with Montpelier of Hanover to advance 3-2 on aggregate.
Markeino Gillings gave Wadadah a 24th-minute lead converting from the penalty spot to ease their nerves. Montpelier's Garth Johnson fired home a freekick in the 62nd minute to set up an intriguing final 28 minutes. However, Wadadah held on and secured their quarter-final spot.
Trelawny's Village United travelled to Clembhart Park in St. Mary and edged Star Cosmos 1-0 for a comfortable 3-0 aggregate win. Christopher Stone scored in the 81st minute.
