The Editor, Sir:
A flexi-work week should be implemented without any undue delay because it has been the norm for years with the lower-income groups.
The main reason a lot of white-collar workers and civil servants are so opposed to flexi-time is that they would no longer have the luxury of overtime pay to look forward to. Some of these workers are notorious for allowing regularly scheduled work to go over into overtime, when the given job could have been completed long ago.
A few advantages of flexi-time are that employees have greater freedom to organise their working lives to suit their personal needs. In addition, travelling can be cheaper and hassle-free if it is out of peak time. For employers, flexi-time can aid the recruitment and retention of staff. It can also help to provide staff cover outside normal working hours and reduce the need for overtime. Also, flexi-time can improve the provision of equal opportunities to staff unable to work standard hours.
