Tyndale-Biscoe Photography LimitedThe expansion of the Norman Manley International Airport continues as preparation for the hosting of the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) scheduled to officially get under way on March 11.
However, Phase 1A of the expansion, which commenced in 2004, will not be completed in time for the start of the games.
Earl Richards, president of the Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ), said this phase of work is expected to be completed in the last quarter of the year. He said some key areas of the airport would be brought to a state of readiness for CWC. This phase is estimated to cost US$80 million (J$5.2 billion).

A new multi-level passenger pier, which will effectively separate the arrival and departure concourses, will also be constructed, along with the installation of four passenger- loading bridges, an upgraded roadway system and expanded public car park.
