Custos Nelson hails senior cop
published: Friday | March 2, 2007

The Custos of St. James, Clarence Nelson, has hailed outgoing Superintendent of Police, Warren Clarke, for his outstanding performance as a crime fighter in the parish.

Supt. Clarke has been reassigned to the Corporate Area by Commissioner of Police Lucius Thomas and will take up duties later this month.

"Speaking on behalf of the people of St. James, you have earned respect of the citizenry and even your peers, and the conclusion of the jury is that you did the best," said the custos in a letter.

Transfer regretted

In his letter to Supt. Clarke, Custos Nelson said: "On the eve of your departure, I feel impelled to write you expressing my regret on your transfer. In my 11 years as Custos, I have seen many officers come and go in St. James and I must say you are among the most outstanding in terms of your conduct in the discharge of your duties, and your technical and managerial competence. You came at a time when St. James was at its worst in crime; but even as I write, there is some abatement to the crime situation.
