The golden anniversary celebration of the union between Donovan and Gloria Ives was simply spectacular as the families of the two went all out to commemorate the special occasion.
With gold trimmings decorating the room to mark 50 glorious years, three generations of Ives, along with friends, f?ted the elderly couple at the Terra Nova Hotel in St. Andrew.
Like something out of a fairy tale, Donovan and Gloria both dressed in cream outfits, looking as blissful as they did on their wedding day 50 years ago.
A five-tiered wedding cake and the small cake boxes on the tables, complete with souvenirs engraved with the couple's names, gave reflections of their wedding in 1957.
Originally from St. Mary
The couple, both originally from St. Mary, met in 1953. They moved to Spanish Town after their union and still reside there today.
Grandchildren Lauren Andrade and Jeremy Chambers brought laughter into the evening as they relived the memories of their childhood with their grandparents.
Gloria, affectionately called Ms. Peggy, they said, was the disciplinarian, while Donovan, called Bossy, was more merciful and begged for them to escape quite a few beatings.
One of the most memorable moments of the evening was the five-minute slide presentation that travelled through the years from the couple's marriage, their six children and later 16 grandchildren.
But the most exciting moment came when the lovely couple cut the cake and fed each other. This brought loud cheers from guests.
A blushing Mrs. Ives smiled as she bowed her head as her husband stood proud, looking on with love as if he had laid eyes on her for the first time.
Among those who celebrated with the Ives were: Bishop Edgar and Mrs. Eason, Pastor Gladys Brown of the All Saints Apostolic Church in Spanish Town, the couple's six daughters, 16 grandchildren, as well as members of their congregation.
