DEFENDING Champions Tivoli Gardens coasted by rivals Arnett Gardens 2-0 at the Edward Seaga Stadium, becoming one of four Premier League teams to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Red Stripe Champions Cup yesterday.

In windy conditions which made ita difficult day for football, Tivoli were hardly pressed. The pressure was squarely on the shoulders of the 'Junglists', and having gone down 2-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Complex in the first leg, they struggled to find their way back into the tie.

Rubed salt into wounds

After a scoreless first half, that possibility flew out the window when Horace Howell found the back of the net from close range in the 55th minute.

A very loosely marked Howell sneaked in to fire past custodian Julian McLeish from six yards out after a sleeping Arnett backline left the 'keeper exposed by letting in a soft cross from winger Orane Simpson.

Fabian Davis rubbed salt into Arnett's wounds with a spectacular free kick to the right of goal from 25 yards out in the 68th minute.

The attempt curled away to the right of McLeish who, though making up a lot of ground drifting across goal, could get nowhere near the free kick.

In other games, a second-string Harbour View team banged in six goals as they romped past Downs 6-0 at the Downs Community Centre.

Waterhouse also booked their spot in the last eight with a 1-1 draw against Seba at Catherine Hall. A 2-1 win at the Waterhouse Stadium last week saw the Drewsland team advance 3-2 on aggregate.

Modest performance

Portmore United put in a more modest performance in their second-leg encounter with a 1-1 draw against Super League team Duhaney Park at the Sherwin Williams Stadium. However, the former champions had basically secured their spot in the quarter-final round with a 5-0 win in the first-leg encounter.
