Art for children at Grosvenor
published: Saturday | March 3, 2007

Move over, football and tennis camp, there is a new class in session for children on a Saturday - art - that is. Grosvenor Galleries, 1 Grosvenor Terrace in Kingston, has resumed its Saturday artclasses for children. The gallery, renowned for its annual bazaar and exquisite art pieces, thought that it was time to offer art classes for children.

Infants every Saturday delve their creative minds and hands into a practical lesson of art, designing tye-and-dye pieces, and painting on tiles and canvasses.

Art displays

Douglas Reid, owner of the gallery, said that the children learn how to make useful art items which they take home.

"Sometimes the children make name plaques for their bedroom door," said Mr. Reid.

The classes are held every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m for children age four to 13. Meanwhile, the cost per class is $1,000 and materials are provided.

"The emphasis is not on teaching, it is on participation, just for the children to exercise their artistic ability," he said.
