Topping it off in style
published: Friday | March 9, 2007

Miss Jamaica World, Sara Lawrence, also gave her support and her stunning good looks to the Hats On To Easter brunch on Sunday.

The east lawns of Jamaica House provided the setting for the third Hats On To Easter fund-raising brunch last Sunday.

In keeping with the tradition, ladies and a few gentlemen sported their finest in headgear. For every ticket sold, it meant a few more dollars. And for anybody who didn't have their domes or hairdos covered, they were 'fined' for the 'indiscretion'. Not like anybody complained; all that money went to charity as well. Still, Christine Bell, CEO of Innovative Ideas and its affiliate Hearts 'N' Ideas (organisers of the event), had a few hats to lend the delinquent.

Known more for his comedic prowess, Glen 'Titus' Campbell proved to be a more than capable DJ as he played 'Sunday music' tokeep the afternoon groovy and mellow. Guests were treated to a fine brunch featuring some of the Best Dressed Foods line of products.

Young entertainers

Joel Jones, with his Best Dressed Chicken hat (a throwback to the conquistadors, he says), was voted the winner in the male category.

Since this event was for children, it was only right that entertainment be provided by young, vibrant entertainers. Thirteen-year-old Nadje Leslie had the audience clapping along to her violin recital as she performed Jamaican classics such as Mango Time and Linstead Market. The Ashe Ensemble then had guests twisting with their uptempo routine which even involved a twist contest, won hands down by Lyn Hinds.

The centrepiece of the gathering was the fashion show. It was a two-part event, with hats from Tajie's Hat and Variety Store in the first segment and then suits from D'Choix Boutique. Guest models included reigning Miss Jamaica World Sara Lawrence. The models sported casual, business and evening wear. In between the fashion shows, anybody who felt brave enough to go on stage and show 'hattitude', strutting their stuff, was free to do so.

Guests included: Alma Mock Yen; Winsome Jureidini; Rachel Wade; Heather Grant (who was MC); Michael Leslie; Thyra Heaven; Nicole Crooks; Kalando Wilmoth; Shernett Hall; Sybil Barnett; Nadine Crooks; Wyvolyn Gager; Rose Campbell; Denise Tulloch; Dionne Forbes; Alison Moore; Rufus Cumberland and Errol Gregory.
